Sustainable Economy Strategy; Analysis And Comments
In April 2022, Mid Sussex District Council published their plans to reduce carbon emissions. In the period 2018 - 2022 the Council had published two separate strategy documents, one for sustainability and one for the economy. These have now been combined into a single Sustainable Economic Strategy. It's the result of a cross party working group which also claims to have consulted with various external groups.
Foundations of the Strategy
The Strategy starts off setting the scene and expressing the wish to achieve both the environmental goals and to promote economic growth within the district. It discusses national targets, such as the 'Build Back Better', Levelling Up and Net Zero policies. It outlines the Council's spheres of influence, local partnerships as well as global initiatives like the UN's Sustainable Development Goals. Getting to the substance of the document, we have 14 Objectives built around the themes of People, Place and Partnership. Below we explore the key objectives that focus on the Climate Crisis and Biodiversity.
Objective Ten - EV's, Buses & Food Waste
"Increase the number of electric vehicle charging points across the District via the West Sussex Electric Vehicle Partnership...trial food waste collection in 3000 homes...in collaboration with West Sussex County Council to promote rural bus networks connecting the district’s rural communities."
No enough charging points. Food shipped to Basingstoke until our plant is ready. Buses pushed back to WSCC to resolve.
