Objective 10: Facilitate the design, delivery and use of sustainable infrastructure and services.

Not enough charging points for electric cars, food waste trials and bus improvements.

"What we will do:

• Increase the number of electric vehicle charging points across the District via the West Sussex Electric Vehicle Partnership delivering a network of chargers that meets demand."

The Coalition comment: the target detailed below of 38.8 points per 100,000 population mean that, with a population of around 150,000 Mid Sussex will have less than 60 charging points. That's not just one town but for the whole of Mid Sussex. Is that really meeting demand?

• "Review the evidence base that informs the District Plan Review process and, if supported by evidence, develop a policy setting out the standards for providing EV charging on new developments (both speculative planning applications and forthcoming allocations within the District Plan)."

The Coalition comment: if the sale of all solely fossil fuel cars is stopped by 2030, it is surely common sense, and not that expensive, to add a charger to each new parking space in new developments? We need to find the 'evidence' for the District Plan Review...

• "Monitor and where appropriate support other sustainable low carbon dioxide vehicle technologies."

The Coalition comment: Like my push bike? Ok, maybe hydrogen powered larger vehicles.

• "Implement a 1-2-3 collection trial, including food waste, across 3,000 homes and prepare for the new statutory responsibilities that will arise from the government’s Resources and Waste Strategy."

The Coalition comment: this one has been a long time coming. Trial to begin in late summer with waste being driven to Basingstoke until a WSCC site (Hurstwood, near Warnham) is ready.

• "Work in collaboration with West Sussex County Council to promote rural bus networks connecting the district’s rural communities."

The Coalition comment: Since 2010, bus routes across the Uk have been hit by funding cuts. Can this really be reversed? The WSCC plans are primarily based on winning £135k of funding from central Government. And if we don't get the funding....

The table below sets out the measure of success, What the Council will do, timescale, lead delivery organisation and delivery partners.
